Macromedia University and Burlington English are modernising language testing for international applicants

Macromedia University of Applied Sciences and Burlington English have launched a partnership to overhaul language testing for international applicants. The aim is to develop a digital process that accurately, fairly and efficiently assesses language skills, thereby further improving the university’s admissions process.

At the heart of the collaboration is a newly developed testing system comprising more than 20 custom admission assessments tailored to Macromedia’s degree programmes. These assessments are available in both German and English, evaluating both linguistic and cognitive abilities. The content is based on the university’s academic standards.

The Burlington VTest Custom Platform combines automated scoring for multiple choice and a secure external grading platform enabling Macromedia faculty to evaluate open-ended responses. A robust proctoring solution ensures exam integrity and delivers detailed security feedback to admissions staff. A centralized administration platform allows admissions teams to upload and organize students in order to assign, monitor, and analyze assessments across applicant cohorts.

Another element of this collaboration is the introduction of Burlington VTest General English: a cost-effective, CEFR-compliant alternative for certifying English language proficiency.
