Why choose the VTEST English for Schools CEFR proficiency tests?

The VTEST English for School: Ages 7–10 test is an exam produced by VTEST – online secure assessment. Developed by a team of experts in test design, CEFR alignment, item writing for young learners, and drawing illustrations, as well as psychometrics.

The test is success-oriented to give learners confidence and help them enjoy the testing experience, including real-life situations, a large variety of tasks, a virtual friend to help the student and provide rewards, and great feedback providing relevant Can-do and suggestions.

VTEST provides to all students a friendly certificate of achievement, and a detailed test report.

The test are modular offering all four skills at once, or in combination including:

  • Separate module available: Speaking
  • Combination of two skills: Listening & Reading
  • Combination of three skills: Listening & Reading + Writing.
  • Combination of the four skills: Listening, Reading, Speaking Writing.


The test can be taken at school in a classroom.

What about the VTEST English for School: Ages 7–10?

The VTEST English for Schools: Ages 7–10 has been designed using coherent and consistent CEFR Can-do descriptors for each skill from Pre-A1 to B1, and a large set of task types to diversify with the testing experience.

It includes:

  • A virtual friend
  • A pie chart and question count
  • Missions
  • A variety of question types

Virtual friend

  • At the beginning of the test, the student is asked to select a friend.
  • The friend will be present throughout the duration of the test and will help the student to read and listen all instructions.

Pie chart and question count

  • Each skill’s module is divided into four parts.
  • A pie chart is displayed on the screen, showing the four different parts. Going through the parts, the pie chart will help the student know where they are within the four parts.
  • When there are many questions rotating within the same task, a question count is displayed above the exercise, to inform the student to where they are.

Missions

  • At the beginning of each part, the VTEST friend takes the student on a mission.
  • The mission will be completed at the end of the last part.
  • The role of the mission is to engage the student into a visual objective, but also to stimulate interest and receive progress rewards.

A variety of question types

Listening activity: Picture matching

  • Students listen to five short dialogues and in each case identify the image that is mentioned in the dialogue.
  • Students are assessed on their ability to understand short dialogues and to identify key vocabulary items mentioned in the dialogues.

Reading activity : Picture choice

  • Students read a statement and answer a question on it. The question requires students to look at images and choose the one that is most relevant to the statement.
  • Students are assessed on their ability to read and understand simple messages in everyday texts.

Reading activity : Read a correspondence and select YES or NO

  • Students read a correspondence and and should answer five questions. The texts are examples of short personal correspondence: emails, social media messages, or letters written by friends. Typical texts involve invitations to events, questions about personal experiences, and similar everyday topics.
  • Students are assessed on their ability to read and understand examples of personal correspondence.

Speaking activity: Picture story

  • Students see four connected pictures that show a chronological story, and are then asked to tell the story in their own words.
  • Students are assessed on their ability to use appropriate grammar and vocabulary to tell a coherent story in sufficient detail.

Writing activity: Picture description

  • Students see four connected pictures that show a chronological story, and are then asked to tell the story in their own words.
  • Students are assessed on their ability to use appropriate grammar and vocabulary to tell a coherent story in sufficient detail.
